In the bible there are a certain number of scriptures which purport to tell of future events. Among biblical scholars I've seen two approaches to these. The first is to assume that these speak of the time in which the scripture was written, and nothing more. The second, particularly prevalent among fundamentalist, is the belief that these scriptures represent future events which must happen before "the end." I don't subscribe to either of these points of view, as they both deny the the power of God. That is, the first denies that denies that God could show people events which are going to be, and therefore deny the power of God. Less obviously, the second also denies the power of God. That is, although the proponent would likely deny it, they tend to believe, as the first group, that God cannot know the future. They choose to use this, however, as a means of promoting themselves, rather than honestly believing it. I shall take the third path. These scriptures can foretell the future, as God has that power to reveal the future if he so chooses. That being the case, I should be able to find some prophesies which foretell the future, but I should also be able to find prophesies which foretell the past. That is, prophesies which foretell events which, although in the future at the time they were written, are now in the past. This section is where I will document some of these. |
